Youth Summer Reading Game - Unearth a Story

Fast FAQ: 

CCPL Youth Summer Reading program runs from June 17th through August 14th.    

One board is used by all ages—pre-reader, elementary, and teen.   

Kids read and complete activities to win a free book for each path completed. 

At registration, participants receive:   

  • One folder & stickers to decorate it  
  • Game board  
  • Free book   
  • Brochures for the upcoming programs 

About the game board:   

  • Each path consists of 4 steps along the way to reach a “dino”.  
  • Each step may be completed with a combination of reading and activities, or all reading steps 
  • When a “dino” is reached, the reader may choose a free book. Books can be chosen 
  • on the date of redemption or after the date and not before. 
  • On the back of the gameboard are suggested activities to complete a step. 
  • Participants may mark a completed step using an X, checkmark, etc 

Rules of the game:   

  • You must read for one step in each path  
  • You are welcome to read for all steps OR you may choose an activity to complete from the back of the board 

Prizes:                 

  • You may claim 1 book per dino 
  • Total book prizes is 5 – one at sign-up and 4 when having completed the game board.  
  • Completion of the game board – you will receive one entry into the grand prize drawing, one book, one special dino and one slip to vote for the name of the capybara library mascot.  Game boards and books cannot be turned in/redeemed after 8/14/26. 
  • There will be grand prizes for each age group—pre-reader, elementary, and teen. 
  • Grand prize winners will be notified by August 21, 2026 and must respond by end of business on Monday, August 24th to claim the prize, or it will move to the runner up.

What’s summer reading without prizes!? As in years past, kids will earn entries into our grand prize drawings for playing the summer reading game.

 

Pre-reader gift set: Dino Duplo set, dinosaur sensory tubes, “Never Touch a Dinosaur” board book, and a Tuffy “Dinosaurs Big and Little” book 

Elementary gift set: Lego Classic Creative Dinosaur set, Sherlock Bones graphic novel book #1 and #2, plush Dinosaur skeleton costume 

Teen gift set: Dinosaur notebook, Dinosaur travel mug, plush dino nugget pillow, a dinosaur book sleeve and Barnes and Noble gift card.

engage readers of all ages through a diverse array of artistic expressions. From watercolor painting and pet portraits to the ever-popular Reptile Wonders, we have something for everyone!

Adult Summer Reading

Join the Summer Challenge for a chance to win a 3D printer or fun reader prizes!

How It Works:

Pick up a punch card and start earning punches today. Keep it as a bookmark or leave it at the library for safe storage. Complete activities to earn punches and raffle entries.

You can fill your punch card by doing any combination of the following:
-Read a book
-Check out 3 DVDs
-Attend a library program
-Share a photo of something you made (see Maker Challenge below)
-Check out and return an item from the Library of Things (limit 1 per visit per day)

Rewards:

One punch gets you one prize book.

One completed punch card earns you an entry into our grand prize raffle. Grand prizes include a Bambu Lab A1 Mini 3D printer, reading goody bag, or basket of cleaning supplies.

Maker Challenge Information:

The Makerspace wants to see what you’re creating! Submit a photo of your project for display on the Makerspace bulletin board to earn a punch.

Rules:

All creative works are welcome, including crafts, electronics, woodworking, art, sewing, cake decorating, and more. Ask if unsure!

Bring in a printed photo or send it by email to info@carolib.org with the subject: “Maker Challenge,” including your name and a brief project description, and we’ll print it for you.

Works in progress are welcome! You may submit the same project more than once if visible progress has been made since the last submission.
Crafts from Caroline Crafts kits earn a maximum of one punch per month per person.
